I
created Stacey M Design
in 1994 in response to a need for variety in Afrocentric greeting cards.
I have always loved stationery. In September, 1994, I was shopping for
Christmas cards-- yes, in September!! My favorite stores offered beautiful
cards with elaborate depictions of African American families, Santas,
and angels. I could not find, however, a card that matched my personality
that also featured African Americans. I like "cute" things.
I like fun things. I like light hearted things. I like to smile and
laugh. These are the sentiments that I wanted my Christmas cards to
convey. Well, none were available. So I created my own.
In addition
to Stacey M Design,
I also operate an African American parenting website-- CelebratingChildren.com.
At CelebratingChildren.com, I focus on the wonder of African American
children and pass on information that helps parents make every day
in their children's lives celebrations.
I also
recently published a book, Black Families
Online: Directory of Online Resources for Black Parents.
Finding products, information and services targeted to Black families
has traditionally been difficult and frustrating. Families treasured
that rare book, doll, or card that featured positive images of Black
families. While there have always been resources, they have been inconvenient
or difficult to access. Enter the digital age. Point and click. There
it is! Information, products and services not available in our physical
neighborhoods are now available in our cyber-neighborhood.
Black
Families Online is a roadmap to help you navigate
this new community. Organized into 20 topics, Black
Families Online is a compilation of over 380 Web resources.
With this convenient directory, families will be able to research
college scholarships, finish Christmas shopping, decorate a child’s
bedroom, find online activities, discover multicultural educational
tools, talk to other families about home schooling, and much, much,
more…without leaving the house! Black
Families Online is also an excellent resource for
teachers, adoptive and foster parents, social workers and anyone seeking
to add multiculturalism in children’s lives. To learn more about

I
grew up on the east coast and after going to Columbia University
and Boston University, I found my way to Chicago. I now have a
fabulous husband and an even more fabulous 6-year-old son, Isaiah.
They are my inspiration to keep creating.
